Great Grey Shrike Lanius excubitor (Linnaeus, 1758)

Very rare, passage migrant. May occur between October – March.

  1. One, not aged, 22nd Nov. 1964 (M. Kendall).
  2. One, not aged, 14th Nov. 1973 (A.H. Davis, A. Merritt.).

The first record was said to be near Ubley, so there is no evidence at the moment that the bird was actually seen beside the lake. The second record was seen from the south shore of the lake as it flew with stops over Holt Farm. It was moving towards Blagdon village (pers. comm. Andy Davis).
