Eurasian Hoopoe Upupa epops (Linnaeus, 1758)

Extremely rare, vagrant, passage migrant & summer visitor.

  1. One, not aged, 28th July 1948 (A. Shaw).
  2. One, not aged, 1st May 1977 (D.E. Ladhams).
  3. One, not aged, 29th-30th May 2003 (pers. comm. Dr A. Herring).*

The 1948 record was given as Ubley, so may not have been beside the lake.

There was another record on 2nd May 1954 of “one on a lawn, Ubley, near Blagdon, May 2 (G. Lowther) (cf. Bristol Evening Post, May 7 1954).” This is close to the lake but there is no evidence of it being seen there.
