Little Egret Egretta garzetta (Linnaeus, 1766)

Cheddar Water, Blagdon Lake © Nigel Milbourne 2011

The first acceptable record for the lake was of a bird found by the author at Polish Water in front of the Fishing Lodge on 29th August 1997 (contra Avon Bird Report 1997 which suggests it was on Home Bay Point). Since that time Little Egrets have visited on many occasions and can now be classified as uncommon viz. occur in small numbers each year.
