A species that originated in Brazil, and has a native range from Mexico through Central America to Ecuador and east of the high Andes to northern Argentina. The Muscovy Cairina moschata was domesticated in tropical America centuries before Europeans arrived there, and was brought to Europe circa 1550 and England shortly after. It has bred in the wild in Britain.
