Summary

The year got off to a slow start with atrocious weather keeping many birders at home, including me. The RING-NECKED DUCK stayed over the New Year and got a few local bird lists off to a good start. Unfortunately, confusion reigned as to whether the Lesser Scaup was still present too. As it turned out, it seems the last sighting of the Lesser Scaup was on 20th December 2024, and a probable Aythya hybrid had many people fooled until the mystery was finally resolved once and for all on 3rd January.
