Summary

The year got off to a quiet start, with the lake about a foot from top level, and most of the dabbling duck having moved on after the very low water of last year. A large flock of up to 300 Pochard spent time on the lake in January before leaving in early February, while Tufted Duck numbers remained low. The drake RING-NECKED DUCK made a handful of appearances but spent much of its time at Chew. February saw a Dipper frequenting the Pumping Station on occasion, and a Marsh Tit along Butcombe Bank was a welcome sight for the second time in three years here.
